Working on my FJ today and looking at some of the work the previous owner did. He/she did (more like attempted) a shackle reversal. Had to share a picture of this weld. Turns out the axel was almost a inch off true as well.
Glad I haven't driven this cruiser more then a few miles, seems a good pot hole could knock that loose.

My guess is there is more to the mounting than the booger welds.
