You are paying antifreeze prices for water. Buy a gallon of antifreeze, put it in then fill the gallon container with clean water and drop it in and you now have 50/50 antifreeze.

As mentioned why pay for water?
50/50 takes care of the cavitating question.
I do pay a little bit for water as I use distilled water.

Here is the status of this . . .
I put in a new thermostat and gaskets.
I put on new alt and airpump belts.
I pointed the FJ40 uphill.
I got a leak at the lower thermo switch on the thermostat housing, so i had to take the entire housing (thermostat in tact) off and make a new gasket for the housing to block side, and blue RTV ther thermo switch. I have everything hooked up and it seems to be working, except the FJ40 barely gets about the cold (C) mark, like the thermostat is sticking open. I am now getting some heat inside. It is always something with this 1982 these days . . . 253K miles.
