well I think this is as far as I go with this terrible choice of wood , so off to the wood working store this weekend for a better type ... and thoughts ?

I like the darker color much more, less of a contrast with your dash. Nice job, that stuff isn't easy.
 
2nd attempt little more triming to do but I lost the sanding drum to my dremel lol . I think its shows improvement I used tape from the wood store which is much thinner . I think p.a.s. wood will be my final choice but I have to order it . I looked at wenge wood but the stuff they had was much to stiff to make the bends . This wood came out much lighter not sure why ?

any kind of burl veneer usually looks pretty nice because it is non-directional in appearance.
 
Probably the reason that Toyota went with the stuff they did in the 80.
I think it is the reason Everyone who has wood trim uses it.
Really cool patterns could be made using straight grain wood, but it takes a lot of time. Burl looks pretty nice, but lots of different treatments could be used.
