Y’all help me put my brain around this.

Since I have a later water pump and some hardware fittings and I’m installing new heater tube I’m going to reinstall the OEM bypass hose.

Which of these 3 holes needs the bypass hose?

This is what I’m thinking. Plug the center right one.

On the 2F lower thermostat housing, I thought that the thermostat flange sits into a recessed ring, then the sandwich gasket goes on top of the thermostat flange before joining the upper and lower housings.

Can't tell from the photo, but is the F engine thermostat housing different?

The lip is in the top part of the housing on this old tall F housing @Bear

It’s one of the coolest things on the motor. Mine is heavily pitted but I’ll RTV it as well to make it work.

Yeah if I plug the bottom T housing hole and am able to get the plug out of the top hole (it’s soaking in Kroil for 48 hours) the top will line up perfectly with a bypass hose.

I farmed the heater valve off the 1970
Parts 40 too

I had a can of Kroil go bad so I cracked it open and dropped the valve in it.

I also farmed the intact horn button off of it for Patina. Rust Inhibitor is on.

I got the lower housing plugged and put it all back together. Due to the heavy pitting I used RTV along with a rubber thermostat gasket I found in my stash.

It lines up now perfectly for the stock bypass hose.

Waiting on my oem clamps in the mail from @beno

I also got the valve cover clean (ish)

But Arizona was calling his name so he packed up his belongings and drove Route 66 nearly 1600 miles to the desert mountains of central Arizona

The ole 45 has a range of about 250 miles so stops were frequent but gas was cheap in 1974

Not many roads were paved in those days but the 45 ate up the last few miles into the Gila National Forest with ease

Earnest traveled light in those days

In 1974 your red Goat handled the Route 66 without hubs. :)
Cheers Peter I don`t miss them on mine

No!!!

Hang two w/o holes on wall (or pass along - hint hint), buy two repro ones with holes, drag them around behind the GOAT a bit and they’ll be worthy for the front wheels with hubs.
