it's out of a Ford F150...cost $50 bucks and non-destructive to the existing console...works great.

Not bad. I think I would make some pieces on a bandsaw that fit the contour of the Ford part's bottom and then fit into the top of the LC console. I would also protect the original plastic with something. Maybe plastidip the plywood so that it looked and felt more like plastic? That way when they rub on the LC center console, it doesn't mar the plastic.

Red Merle, I agree...I just made the plywood part to fit as a proof of concept...works great and I will cover with cloth or vinyl or something...the small cubby inside the F150 unit works well too...plus, easy to remount the original console lid to return to stock...
