HELP TRUCK DIED WHILE DRIVING
HAS SPARK/FUEL KEEP CRANKING BUT WON'T RUN
HOW CAN I CHECK IF IT HAS ANY CODES
THANKS

Four things are needed to make an engine run. Spark, air, fuel, and mechanical. Unless something catastrophic has happened to a major mechanical component, like a crankshaft or timing chain (and you'd likely hear it if something major failed), it's probably one of the other three- spark, air, or fuel. It's pretty hard to deny an engine air, so odds are that one of those other two things isn't making it into the compression chambers. What have you done to confirm that you have spark and fuel?

Does the Check Engine light come on briefly when you first turn the key on?

UN BOLTED THE FITTINGS AT FUEL FILTER HAVE GOOD FUEL PRESSURE
TOOK EACH LEAD OUT FROM SPARK PLUG HAVE GOOD SPARK

Maybe tap that key on the left of your keyboard that says 'Caps Lock' as well.

If you really need help on something like this it requires details, provide them. Think about what the mechanic would ask you;
  • what mods are done to the rig
  • what is the history of the rig
  • has this or something similar happened before
  • what happened during the lead up to this
Coming to a forum with a 'HELP ITS BROKEN, FIX IT' won't get your wheel turning again.

Unless your engine just blew its timing chain or shot a piston out the bottom your above statement isn't correct. Compression + Fuel + Spark = ignition

Fuel to the filter means the fuel pump is working, but if your fuel injectors are not working it still won't run. EFI Fuse? Fusible links? Wiring by EGR? TPU wiring? Any of these can keep the injectors from injecting. I'd start looking hard at that fuel injector system. Just my two cents.

Spray some starter fluid into the intake, if it sputters most likely a fuel issue. Fuel pressure just goes to the injectors, you still need them to let the fuel into the cylinder. Check for a fuse blown, that would explain them all failing at once. Is the distributor is loose, if you are getting a good spark on each wire, maybe it slipped causing the timing to be way off. Lastly timing chain could have broken, pull the dist cap and have someone crank the engine, if the rotor turns then the timing chain must still be connected.

TOOK DIST.CAP OFF ROTOR SPINS
ROTATED DIST.ENGINE STARTED
WHAT CAUSE THE DIST.TO BE OFF THIS MUCH TO START
MAY BE TIMING CHAIN LOOSE

YES. IT COULD BE THIS.

If you changed the timing adjustment it is very possible in doing so you moved around the wires on the fusible links. Replace those links, they are cheap, less than $15.

AND STOP SHOUTING

Did you have to loosen the bolt to turn the Dist, I would guess the dist was not tight. If your timing chain did jump a tooth or two on a gear the timing between the crank and cam shafts would be off and it would not run well. So my guess is dist rotated somehow. Just time it, tighten it and call it a day is my opinion. Chains rarely become loose like a belt would.

Timing Chains stretch with use, the 1FZ FE engine comes equipped with a Hyd. tensioner to compensate for that stretch.

What year 80?

Do you know what OBD2 is, and as a followup - is the 'check engine' light on steady, or does it light momentarily then go out when cranking?

Or is the bulb burnt out behind it & you never see it light up?

Also, unless you're ESL or on a iphone X -

TURN OFF CAPS LOCK ALREADY, Jack!!!
It's annoying AF.
