Happy Thanksgiving everyone,
After combing the forum threads for a couple of days here is my question. I need to replace my coil...can I use one with an internal resistor and jettison the "igniter". I have a 1986 FJ60. I have looked at schematics, read a number of threads having to do with coils and igniters. I know many will say "why?" and "get a regular coil and reuse your igniter" (it still works). Fine, that is an option.....just wondering if this other option would work at all. Many thanks.

It won't work on the OEM USA electronic distributor.
The igniter's purpose is to boost the amperage from the signal generator in the distributor so that the coil can detect it. Without an igniter the coil can't fire.
