The problem is well documented here. I'm considering to replace mine as preventive care, but wanted to understand how often it happens. Please choose your experience here in the poll. Thanks!

My kids broke a few keys off in ignition switches. That stopped, once I showed them the how to take pressure off the ignition switch steering wheel lock. Is that what's break this/these shafts?

Just reading a little bit of the thread you posted it looks to be a LX problem. I kept reading the auto tilt works, but truck won't start. Do later TLCs get auto tilt?

I believe it's in part due to its weak design, because newer parts from Toyota have a beefier shaft.
 
Just had mine break this morning. First out of three LX's I have owned.
