Ahh makes sense. Gotta have laws so you can collect fees...my brother in law is from Melbourne and his insight is pretty telling...i've asked him about universal healthcare and he didn't have a whole lot good to say. Verifying this I have a boss from England and he literally works a less than desireable job so him and his wife can have American healthcare as opposed to the universal stuff.
Back to cruisers. . .

Alright fellas, hands up who started off with plans to tidy up the paintwork, maybe slap some new tires on and do some general servicing on their project. Then went completely overboard and pulled every single component on their car apart and ended up with 34 year old parts looking like this...

Ready for installation, just waiting on an engine...

Nice thread mate! Did you rebuild the gearbox yourself or get help with that? It looks bloody good.

I definitely feel your pain of assuming you'll just put a bit of paint on it, service it and away you go haha!

I wish mate! A local bloke who specialises in 40's put it all together for me. The 5 speed was an absolute gamble. Total shed find and hadn't been in a car for years, just sitting on a pallet so hoped it was in decent nick. Came up the goods.

Hows the build going mate?
Slowly mate. Haha. I was hoping to have it nearly done by now, but experiencing the usual hold ups with bodywork and life in general. I'm a farmer, so harvest starts in the next few weeks so she'll go on the back burner soon probably until early February as I'll be totally time poor for the next 4 months.

Drive train is pretty much done and she's close to being ready for paint. Rims are getting powdercoated and I picked up a set of 255/85 BFG KM2s for her last week. So all in all she's closer to be done than I always think. I can't wait to see her on the road, but sometimes I think I'm stretching the project out because I don't know what I'll do with myself when she's done!

I'm pretty sure the wife already has a set of blank divorce papers in the draw. They're not signed yet. But she's got them there just in case I get any ideas....

Not sure why my wife hasn't divorced yet. Went from one cruiser when we got together to over a dozen and small warehouse full of parts. Guess I should be glad I don't live in Australia. $1,000 for that troopy I couldn't help myself. Then find a five from a 40 series. Searched for years one for. Finally bought one in Australia from a BJ42. Still going to have to change the input shaft once it's get here. As long as its taking to get my five speed and as fast as your working you'll be finished and taking your trip around Australia long before I see my transmission. You come across another 40 series five speed keep me in mind. If fact you find another 83+ troopy as nice as this one for $1000 send me a PM. Figure the next cruiser will be the final straw so might as well have something I can live in.

I'm constantly fighting the urge to grab another 40 too mate. Heaps of really tidy utes over here I'd love to own. I'm just trying to keep my focus on the troopy until she's done. I've absolutely fallen for her and think she'll be a member of the family for a long time. The main reason my wife's stayed on board with the project so well is the promise of one well restored, clean, good looking tourer. Not 1 half done troopy and 3 more bombs in the shed. Haha. But maybe once troopys done I'll start collecting again.... I'll keep an eye out mate. But the 40-5 speeds are super rare over here as well. I count myself very lucky!

@roma042987 check out the angle of the engine in the last picture.

Good job Westy! I just finished a rebuild of a 45 lob that included a 12HT installation.
