Found this vehicle online, 1 1/2 hours away. No pics yet, talked to the salesman - fairly clean. But brakes are not working correctly. My daughter is able to look at it later today for me. Her husband is mechanically inclined. I have a '97, not new to cruisers. Looking for newer style, '97 is going to my daughter. At best - MC fix ($50); worst case - new everything ($3000) - any ideas what I may be in for? or just move on?
Thanks, Nelson

Would need more specifics about the brake issue. Are we talking mechanical issues (rotors, pads, hoses) or electrical/sensor/wiring/pump/MC type things?

I would want to see any service records as well. 120K is low mileage for a 2000 model. IF it has been serviced and maintained correctly/reasonably then it shouldn't need much to baseline it. OTOH....if it has been neglected, you could be in for some costly repairs.

I'd check to see if the timing belt and water pump have been replaced, if they have not....this would be a bargaining point.

$5800.00 is such a 'bargain' price....it rather suggests there are major/costly repairs needed.

Salesman picked it up at auto auction. If i have the vin can i call Lexus and obtain records? Salesman thinks it $700 booster pump, says he would deliver the car to me for safety reasons. Nelson

Called Lexus of Austin, spoke with Nicole who gave me service details. Mileage in 2006 was reported at 200,000+.
Used car dealer is quoting mileage at 120,000. Too good to be true...

drnls......are you in Austin? If so, please....PLEASE tell me this isn't a WHITE LX located in North Austin. If so, there was/is a 2000 that had 200k on the clock that had major issues id'd with the AHC AND brake system (Austin LC Specialists advised not purchasing it). It's been bounce between auctions....Covert Ford had it, then a local used car lot. Not saying this is the same truck, but I looked at the one I'm describing last month and the "dealer" was very suspect to say the least.

This is the VIN of the one I was referencing: JT6HT00W4Y0093980

Talked to the salesman - states auto check (like carfax) and title both show 120xxx miles. He is going to verify that the vin on the site is correct. He was not offended or defensive so may still be legit.

Just be careful. 120K is mighty low mileage for a 2000 model, but certainly possible. I would do MY OWN checking on it. Service records (if available) will show up on the Lexus site and will show the mileage at the time of service. IF the mileage doesn't jive with what you are being told, something is amiss.

CarFax would be last choice for verification of mileage. I have found CarFax to be inaccurate more than once and completely omitting/devoid of information concerning accidents (checked against my OWN vehicles). So take CarFax information with a grain of salt and always try to 'confirm' with other sources.

Hopefully, the vehicle IS low mileage and the brake issue can be repaired for a reasonable amount, but be careful.

Thanks. Once the vin is verified i will check the history again on the lexus site.

I just bought my 100 this week with 117k on the clock, to verify the maintenance and miles I went to Lexus first and they would not share the records with me. Got on the internet and created an account as the vehicle owner and bam I have the full perfect service history.

I also used car fax because it showed me the miles accrue over the years for the yearly emissions check.

Good luck with your hunt, I looked for a year for a low mileage 100 that was clean and not abused. Gave up a year ago and bought a CPO 200 and now have a car note.

Found mine through a friend at lunch by accident this week and just had to get it.

Luck!

Don't waste your time on this one. Just pulled the Carfax on it from the license plate and it's got 330k. Also in 2005 it was in a flood disaster area deemed by FEMA.
Don't walk away from it.
Run

I'm still running, not sure where I am. My daughter verified the VIN.
Is it possible to actually change the mileage on these vehicles?

Did not think about that - lot of work to make a sale.

Like poster said above, 120k is very low miles for a 2000, if this was original or 2nd owner with records then possibly a sweet deal but from a dealer that obviously would know the market value of a 120k Land Cruiser, there very likely is serious issues/repairs in store for this vehicle and with the Lexus dealer stating 200,000 miles 10 years ago...this one smells brother.
