Hi all,

I have been told by a reputable diesel tech that tunes alot of toyota diesel engines that there is some sort of device , i believe electrical, that limits the power output on the 1HD-FT engines in first and second gear.
Me being a DIY kind of guy want to disable or remove this myself.
Anyone knows what he is talking about ? He won't tell me because he says it is his bussines

thanks

Could be that he means the BACS or SICS systems, i always mix those two up... do a search on here for those two systems and you'll see.
I think the diesel specialist is "G. O." ?

1HD-FTE (electronic fuel injection) definitely has a switch on the gear box that limits power in 1st gear.

1HD-FT has full mechanical injection. I don't think there is anything to limit power.

BACS reduces fuel at high altitude
SICS reduces fuel while starting the engine. Once the engine is running SICS no longer does anything

Thanks,
I found it in the manual.
Sics it is indeed!
On the 1HDT there is a switch on the manual gearbox.
Not too sure about the 1HDFT as mine is an automatic.
I disconnected it and hooked it up directly to a vacuum source. I can't really feel any difference so I do not think it is used on the auto ones.

It's on the block side of the pump. Vacuum on is normal fueling. Off is reduced. You can adjust the screw on it so it never see's reduced fueling.

Yes, i hooked it up directly to a vacuum source so it never reduces fueling.
I did some more testing today and noticed that in the high rpm range there is a lot more power. Whereas EGTs maxed around 520 degree celsius flat out on long piece of flat road they now climb upto 560 and higher and theres quite a bit more power.

I'm looking for a shop which specializes in 1HD-T / 1HD-FT engine mods .. Oil coolers, Oil Bypass, Transmission Fluid coolers, Intercoolers, High fin count 15-30 lb boost turbos ..

Maybe you should drive yours first for a while and see how you like it before going full tilt on the mods. Tor Fab in Everett WA has extensive experience with diesel LC.
