I have a JDM 1990 FJ80, FE with a 90 amp alternator. I am having the dim headlights at a stop light, "revving" blower fan with the blinker on, trans and voltage lights flashing with the blinker issues.
Idle speed is 610 rpm in drive with the headlights and blower on full. If I rev it a bit, to 750 rpm, the headlights are bright and there are no issues.
I think my alternator and battery were both replaced in Nov 2014. The alternator looks to be a Toyota OEM 90 amp. Battery is a Panasonic.
The below gauge is an MPGuino and voltage is direct from the battery and is grounded to the chassis. Please excuse my makeshift enclosure as I was still testing the MPGuino out.
The MPGuino reads 1 volt low.
This pic is no load in park at 2,000 rpm.
This pic is the blower on full (A/C off) with headlights on, in gear.
This pic is the blower on full (A/C off) with headlights on, in park at 2,000 RPM.
My question is, shouldn't the voltage at the battery be higher at 2,000 rpm?
I think I need to do some troubleshooting.
First, I am going to check the voltage at the alternator at idle and at 2,000 rpm.
If the voltage is higher at the alternator, that should mean there is corrosion, bad connections, or bad wiring. I think it can also mean a bad battery. If the voltage coming out of the alternator at idle and 2,000 rpm is only 12.5 volts, I would assume the voltage regulator or alternator is bad.
Any other suggestions? I know part of this is a bit normal for the 3FE charging system.
