Line-x is absolutely brute strength quality bed liner. I had my underside done to the engine side of the firewall. I payed $500. I did all the prep work. Perhaps they can shoot you a sample. If it's a satisfactory match and you give the go-ahead your rigs next owner will locked in to red as the color. I also like the fact I can hose my 40 out or let it sit in the rain and no worry about rust.

In my opinion mats over paint trap moisture.

Edit: Oops I see you already decided:beer:
I had quoted line-x a while ago and thought it was overpriced for just shooting a sprayable over prepared metal. I guess I would have been able to blame someone else if it turned out like crap though. I am pretty cheap if I think I can do it myself. What I was really trying to do with the bed liner is bury all the seams and spot-welds with minimal effort. Now I'll just have to sand more and use seam sealer.

Man, just went over your build thread. Great job!

Tub all primed. Body work is done, hopefully. Windshield frame, kick vents and rear top brace also primed. Getting there, slowly but surely.

Great work its getting me motivated for my work next winter!!

Ive never seen a zinc coated frame. I usually see galvanized frames around here

I am having a great internal conflict and need some opinions.

What color to paint the 76, apple red ( first photo, from Google) was my first choice, but I am beginning to waiver. I am now turning towards galaxy grey (second photo, from Google).

The original color was white. It was repainted maroon. I am not

Alright, I am floundering on my color choice. I was dead set on Apple red ,1st picture. But, I am now considering galaxy grey, 2nd picture. Neither one is stock, obviously, but mine was originally white and that doesn't appeal to me. The red is a pearl the grey is a fine flake metallic.

One plus for the red is the wife loves it, therefore it will keep her happy. The red won't let me use the tintable bed liner though. The grey will let me use the tintable bed liner, but she will be pissed when I drag home a 2nd 40 I have on the hook from a friend. A story I will delve into later, a 74 with a fair body poor stock motor, $750 w/ extra parts.

All opinions are welcome, even the pleas for OEM. If I have to sell which of the two are an easier sell. My wife is wonderful, but two fj40s will not fly for very long.

Both colors look great but I like the grey for a 40. 40s have a way of multiplying. At one point my dad and I had 5 and a half. We sold 2 and brought another home. Now we are down to 3.

Have u checked some of the oem colors from the earlier model 40s? One color that no one ever uses is actually a type of orange. Some of the greens are pretty cool too. I think red is done a lot. Personally I think the oem colors remain timeless and classic. Venturing away from that u risk it going out of style.

nothing better then a OEM color. Mine was originally 309 but the PO painted the exterior a cardinal flat red which i kinda like but when i do a repaint it will go freeborn 309

Keep this responses coming.

Meanwhile, during a snow day, it was almost 80F two days ago, I am applying some molten patches to the rear base of the top sides. They are really nice other than that.

And some more....
Tank cover bolt tabs.

Has anyone had problems with paint lifting on the tank cover? It smelled a bit of old fuel once the metal got hot. Just curious.

I think someone belly flopped on the hood and covered it with filler. It had some hail at some point too. There was no attempt to straighten anything before the filler, apparently.

I stripped it down and patched a couple spots on the front. It's taken some pounding and shrinking to get the craters close to gone but I think a skim coat of filler will have it. I'll get to the long board later, it's been a long day.
