One simple thing to try is adjusting the AFM. On my 2fe I was also having pinging under light acceleration when the motor was set to stock timing. By adjusting the cog in the AFM richer I was able to keep decent timing without hearing any pinging. For safety I dialed timing back another...

Another vote for getting it running and driving consistently before worrying about the looks. Live with it a while and make sure you enjoy its quirks before spending big money on body and paint. Besides these trucks dont look half bad with non existent clear coat and a little rust. I get more...

I used toyota fuel hose part # 9533306100 for the return line on a fuel injected FJ62. It's probably the size of your supply for carb'd fj60? I also believe the last three digits 100 = length in centimeters but maybe someone will confirm? Damn, Im just full of partial internet information...
