Problem turn out to be a bad positive cable. Seems it was chewed maybe by a squirrel or rat. Since the pandemic started, I have limited my trips on the rig. Problem solved. Thank you for all the info and suggestions posted. There is no place like ih8mud.

thanks for sharing original post. Lots of talk about denso's reliability of rebuilt units. So what is the best choice in your opinion for an aftermarket alternator ? what finally ended up in your rig?
