    During the valve stem seal replacement I found out that the truck has a blown head gasket. As a result, the truck is no longer for sale and I am tearing the engine down for a top-end rebuild.

    Just to follow up here, I ended up replacing the body side of the o2 sensor connectors off of a donor rig and it fixed the problem permanently.
