    Ignition Problems...making me insane! (Long)

I was not clear. :whoops: Power to the HEI comes from the battery through the fusible link and RELAY I mentioned. (A relay is an electrically operated switch) The relay is switched by the ignition switch using the wire that went to the old ignition system. It is my understanding that the...

    Ignition Problems...making me insane! (Long)

I put a chevy HEI in my 75/76 crossbreed. I used a 12 volt relay switched on by the positive that went to my old ballast resistor. (the old ignition was powered by a dodge coil and resistor) The power to the HEI came fron the battery via a fusible link and 12gauge wire. I hear the heavier...

    Custom Shift Knobs

Also, we buy a lot of stuff from these guys where I work. They have pages and pages of different knobs, though the metric selection is not as wide as SAE http://www.mcmaster.com/ I am not sure if they do non-commercial sales, but it is a good place to find all sorts of miscellaneous stuff.

    Custom Shift Knobs

If you get the right drill and tap, you can make just about anything into a shift knob. You can also drill a hole big enough to epoxy the correct size nut in or use something like Belzona or Devcon metal epoxy (with release agent on the gearshift threads) if whatever you are using won't take...

    HEI Distributor for 2F

One of guys I work with decided to change the points distributors in his boat (twin 250 chevy inboards) over to HEI when I told him what I was doing with my Toyo. He got brand new units from NAPA and I believe he paid less than $100 each. (All the junkyards he checked didn't have any)

    HEI Distributor for 2F

By the way, leaving the key on with the engine off will still discharge my battery. You could prevent damage to the coil/ignition by putting a switch on the dash (or hiding it as a security feature) to shut off just the ignition circuit while allowing ther accessories to be juiced up while the...

    HEI Distributor for 2F

I have a 75/76 crossbreed that I put a 78 camaro HEI on. I am powering the distributor from a fusible link off the positive battery terminal via a headlight relay that uses the original distributor power wire as the control power to turn the relay on. This keeps my battery from draining and...

    Rear Gate/Door ideas

The P.O. of my corrosion farm put in a tailgate with hinges at the bottom, cut the lower half of the ambulance doors off, and made door bottoms out of sheet metal. The outer doorskin is long enough to lap over the top of the tailgate and keep water out, and the top door latch on the drivers...

    Mel's ignition

I installed a chevy HEI in my 2F. I used the guide in the tech section right here on IH8MUD. It works well, though I didn't get any huge MPG gains. (I think my poor mileage is due to my bad compression on two cylinders, though.) Starting is much easier and my low compression cylinders don't...

    engine question

I have had good results checking for spark by clamping my inductive timing light pickup to suspect plug wires and pulling the trigger. If the light blinks, something is trying to spark. When a plug fouls out, I usually loose the light on that cylinder.

And then there were electrical problems...

I had a similar problem with my 75, but the problem would come and go. I waited 'till it was a problem, unscrewed the fuse block and unplugged the harnesses from the back. then I put it all back together. I seem to remember removing the speedo cluster for the exploratory surgery as well. The...
