Another reference to resetting the ECU. Does this thing really keep driving information in volatile memory? Is there any positive confirmation that the ECU was reset besides the clock going back to midnight? It would be nice to know that we are actually resetting something instead of just...

As long as a new pin fits snugly into the pinion shaft, I would only replace the pin. I got mine, along with a few parts I have been needing from Spector (sor.com). I would have gotten it from Cool Cruisers, but they did not have a few of the parts I needed.

FWIW, I went to the Home Depot this morning and purchased a 4 lb. BFH and a 6" extension for a 1/2" impact wrench. 15-20 hits later, the pinion shaft was out. I almost gave up because it did not feel like I was making any progress. Then, all of a sudden, it gave way and I smiled.

I haven't really tried beyond hitting the pinion shaft with a BFH. My plan is to drill a few holes in the pinion shaft near where the pinion shaft pin should be. Hopefully I will be able to break the pin, and get the pinion shaft out. Then I should only need to replace the pinion shaft and...

Speaking of removing the axle ... I broke an axle not too long ago, went to replace it and noticed that my pinion shaft pin (the 12mm one) is broken off inside the pinion shaft. This should be fun.
