Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine... ;)
This 'project' started out as me just fixing one little thing. It has grown to having the entire rear out from under the vehicle and now I'm trying to do more stuff. My wife says this is like going to the store to buy new hand towels for the kitchen...
Yep, I get it. I have to replace the body mount bolts anyway. So since I have to raise the body to get some of them out anyway, it's really not any more work to pull the pipe I wouldn't think. If I wasn't messing with the body mount pads/bolts, I'm with you.
Since I have everything, and I mean everything, out from the transfer case back, no additional disconnections for me. I just need to loosen all the body mount bolts. With the rust they have on them, that will be a challenge in and of itself.
How did you lift up the body? It seems the best...
I’m talking tank. I didn’t have any, or can’t remember any, for the filler tube. Just two bolts to the body right above the fram rail above the axle but I didn’t have any issues getting those out.
Yeah, another thing I noticed when removing the gas tank. That stupid short strap attached where you can’t get to it. If I’m going to lift the body a little (and I keep saying it like it’s no big deal o_O ) maybe I can get a little access there? It’s probably too far forward to lift the body...
Dang it. (and a few other non-PG words) I didn't realize it was NLA. That makes this whole thing even tougher. I agree on not wanting to cut it and have other places things can get lodged in. But I'll keep that as a last resort.
POR is what I am using, top coated by Extreme Chassis Black from Eastwood. I've used the Chassis Black and Extreme Chassis Black on another car (not over POR as they were fresh, clean parts) with good results. As with any painting, prep is the key. After cleaning you have to put the phosphoric...
I think I'll have to give this a try. Right now the entire rear part of my LC is on big 6 ton jack stands since everything underneath is out. I' not sure how safe it would be to try to lift the body with it on the stands. But I'm not sure what interference having the suspension back on will...
I need to replace mine too. I’m dealing with rust and have the entire rear axle, suspension and gas tank out. The body mount bolts need to be replaced as well. While I have them out (assuming the rust doesn’t cause me too much pain) I’m wondering if I can the old one out and new one in, in one...
A bit over due and thread is old, but thought I would update what I did to fix the problem for anyone else that may run into this.
Taking advice from others here, I pulled off both rear tail lights. With the LC running, I applied the brakes to see if I got the problem. Of course I did. ;) I...
I do have a connection for a trailer back there. Has been there as long as I have had the rig, never had an issue. This just started happening in the last few weeks. You saying a short in the trailer harness would cause this behavior?
Did some research and not finding anything exactly like my issue, so hoping someone can help me. Seems it is an electrical problem of some sort (YUCK) but having trouble tracking it down.
If my headlights are off, when I push on the brakes, the clock like and radio backlighting dim. Cig...
I have RTF FSM ;) and it is a very involved step as 80t0ylc mentions with SSTs that I don't see myself getting my hands on. This is why I was looking for some input. It sounds like short of using that procedure, it is trial and error, and then not absolute.
I may call around to the dealer...
