Tachometer doesn't work with Pertronix ignition

Thanks for all the responses. You may chuckle, but my tach is actually an old Heathkit auto analyzer that is pretty much the same age as the truck! So they should actually get along with one another. I'm following the Heathkit instructions as to how to hook it up. However, given the age of...

Tachometer doesn't work with Pertronix ignition

I'm on my second Pertronix ignition - the points replacement kit. I've been very pleased with it, BUT my tachometer shows no reading. It worked just fine when I was running the regular points. I contacted Pertronix and they gave me 4 possible solutions, but each required installing either a...

Removal and repair suggestions - Rear diff drain plug

Ha, I thought Hallen was a funny name for that plug, until I realized it was a typo. Allen plug it is!

Removal and repair suggestions - Rear diff drain plug

Bashed this pretty good. Cannot get socket on the plug. I'd like to retain as much of the protection ring as possible but get clearance for the socket. All suggestions welcome.

    '81 through '87 2F Distributor Tech

And why is this not a great option for high altitude owners? Perhaps a little basic education on timing and advance at different altitudes would be highly educational for us. Thanks for your support to Mud members!

What can you tell me about this dizzy?

Thanks. I didn’t know where or how to search part numbers. I’ve bookmarked Toyota Parts Deal. 👍

What can you tell me about this dizzy?

Here’s what I know... It came on my 6/74 FJ40 but don’t know if it’s the original. I tried to clean the label with carb cleaner and it removed some of the paint. I won’t make that mistake again! Here are the numbers on the label: 19100-60066 029100-2720 F. 5M (stamped on the label)...

Help me estimate my timing setting - and where it should be.

A huge thanks to all of you. This is really excellent information and confirms my actual experience so far. However, I want to make sure I don’t have things completely backwards, based on what I read in the article attached to 1969FJ’s post. That article says you turn the distributor...

Help me estimate my timing setting - and where it should be.

Here is the background. 6/74 FJ40. Engine was de-smoged and it has headers. I was told the original owner milled down the heads for better compression but compression now is just OK. Everything else is pretty original. Oh and I’m at 9000 ft elevation. I set timing with a light and it idles...

    Emissions question

That’s as good an answer as we have so far! Mine is a 7/74. I have the engine and chassis FSMs so I may have to go for the hat trick.

Does anyone know why SOR skips the 10/72 - 12/74 period? https://www.sor.com/cat048c.sor

Need tips for draining fuel tank, straining gas, and protective tank maintenance.

Thanks everyone. Some great suggestions. I drained the tank thru the disconnected fuel line hose and a small amount of particles came out at the end which didn’t seem bad. I may try and pull the sending unit and do a mirror inspection. And the tip about corrosion starting from the exterior...
