My spare tire raising/lowering segmented tool for my 1996 FZJ80 is gone. No idea. The dealer wants $120+ for a new one. But I'm finding what looks to be basically the same part for the Tacoma at about $25. It doesn't look to me like there will be a fitment issue but I wonder if the wisdom of...
If you must use rattle-can paint: Krylon Industrial Tough Coat acrylic enamel. Did my jamisobe fiberglass flares (also highly recommended--will have pics soon) with the semi-flat black. Good stuff. I got mine at a local automotive paint supply store. Link below is to an online source...
I'm not sure what I did will completely solve your power issue but it was pretty simple however somewhat expensive. My rebuild was stock Toyota all the way. What was different was the headwork. Ported, polished, etc., etc. The guy that does the heavy work on my LC builds racing cars and had his...
I was thinking about that. Probably a good idea once I get them perfectly positioned. Handy thing to have the U-bolts for that purpose.
About serious: Yea, I've been serious for a long time but I've also been amazingly lucky not to have munched something terrible with all the close calls I've...
I now have the definitive answer: LT from MetalTech sent over the official 95-97 FZJ80 Sliders Installation Guide from which I quote. "Tighten all bolts up evenly top and bottom."
Doesn't sound like they're too worried about it so I'll tighten 'em up and stand on the sliders and if they stay...
Okay, I get it. After careful consideration, I believe the consensus is: tight. :hmm:
I guess once they're on as tight as a 1/2" drive socket will take them, where they gonna go, right? I won't forget the brake lines. Thanks for the reminder.
Also just arrived: New flares from jamisobe and...
My new MetalTech sliders arrived yesterday and I'm going to install them on Saturday with the help of two grandsons. Awesome to have drooling 15-year-olds who desperately want to drive your truck! Actually, who want your truck... I keep telling them I'm not going THAT soon.
I'm wondering how...
This is a great thread! I never even considered the difference in weights before. They must train the local Discount Tire guys in Gilbert and Mesa, AZ pretty well 'cause my Nitto TGs have never lost a weight. I will, however, in the future pay more attention.
Oh, yea, where I am in the picture is miles NE from Cougar. I only reference Cougar because it's the most well known (for me, anyway) landmark in the area. Used to take Scouts up there on over-nighters. (What's more fun for a bunch of boys than boulder hopping up a canyon and with water in it to...
Understood well... I've towed my 7x16' Haulmark lots with 3-5k+ pounds in it. Can do it in my sleep in big winds. But sometimes I wish I could tow 10-20k lbs but I sure wouldn't give up the off-road capability to do it. Not no how, no way.
BTW, in my avatar to the left, that's about 2' of...
Well, when all is said and done these are decidedly not towing vehicles. All we can do is the best we can. My main concern is always expedition travel--finding myself in the far-off boonies and being able to get back with a minimum of breakage. To that end I'm taking delivery tomorrow of a new...
