Recent addition to the stable - a beauty 1992 FJ-80!
As I check the dual battery set-up, seems stock from the brackets and wiring but it includes a massive American-made heavy-duty switch by Cole Hersee, which makes me think after-market.
Has anyone seen this switch used on early 90's Land...
OK, problem found. It was the wiring connector to the AFM (Air Flow Meter).
It was pure luck. The AFM tested out ok with the multimeter, but the wire connector clip was missing. So with tranny in D, foot on the brake, and accelerating so that the hesitation was clear, wiggling the wires showed...
Sorry, I wasn't clear - I was responding to the guy who suggested checking the O2 sensor wires, so I meant the wires are fine. I read that to check the oxygen sensor there's a procedure in the Haynes, seems like probing with a multimeter to monitor the voltage fluctuations. I'll try that this...
Thank guys - O2 sensor seems ok. Since there's no cat there's only one after the manifold.
Still can't find the problem :(
I'm hoping it's not the tranny. How could I tell if it's a sensor vs gear slipping?
Hi guys, hope you can help out as I can't easily access a good mechanic.
1994 FZJ-80 auto gears.
Problem started with yellow check engine light coming after leaving the driveway in the mornings. When the light would come on, engine would lose power, some sort of safe-mode I guess. Turn off...

Ah so deska!
I see!
I'll solder them back on... :) if I can find the problem... but no :(
Haynes says resistance at idle should be 200-400 Ohm, and at full throttle between 20 and 1,200.
At idle:
Full throttle:
And a little confused at mid-throttle:
Time to flash out the visa card :(
94SRUNNER, you're absolutely right - thanks!
It's the Air Flow Meter, AFM. My mistake. For the 1994 LC-80.
Intake hose is fine, good advice as that happened once and hose was replaced.
Looks like this (wire optional) ;)
Topside
Might as well open it up and have a look-see.
Excellent...
EDIT: As pointed out, it's not the MAF, but the AFM (Air Flow Meter) - my bad, sorry. Pics follow.
Problems with the Mass Air Flow sensor and looks like it's $$$ to replace... anybody successfully cleaned it out or fixed it?
I'm looking for a last-ditch intervention before I buy a replacement...
Thanks guys.
Connector of 4WD sensor switch was just hanging there: plugged it in and 4WD light came up on dash, and diff-locks engaged right away. Exercised them a bit, and all seems well 8)
Yes, no CLD. Part-time system is rear drive only in H2, then locked in both H4 and L4. Lockers engage...
93 manual gears with carbed 1FZ-F engine has 2H, 4H and 4L on the transfer case gear lever - all work, but no 4WD light on the dash and both lockers don't engage (lights blink, no relay clicks, no actuator noise).
Before I open up both front and rear diff lockers, should I be concerned with...
1993 1FZ-F engine
The diff lock lights on the dash flash ok, but no relay sound, no actuator sound.
Fuse in the panel down low on left of driver is ok, but where are the relays exactly?
Down in the driver's side kick panel there are 3 silver round, and two black square (one of them marked...
