If you can get hold of FJ40 Jim, ask him if he still has rebuild kits for sale. At least 10 or 15 years ago I got a kit for my '76 Cruiser's Aisin carb from him. It was a few bucks more than others but contained parts that weren't included in the other kits. It's been too long ago for me to...
I'm with most of the others re lack of gear oil in the transfer. Just because you don't see any leaks - looks pretty dry on the outside in your photo - doesn't mean it has gear oil inside. Remove the drain plug and see if anything comes out. While you're under there take a look at the...
I haven't verified this but I've been told and heard around that the OME 2.5" is more like 3". I've got it on my '76 with 33x10.5 BFG M/T and haven't yet put it to the test but looks like plenty of room.
Thanks for your comments. It would be going from Buffalo NY to central Illinois. Pulling a trailer for 1200+ miles with my F150 will take at least 100 gallons of gas or $350 - $400 so the quotes I got for $550 - $600 for door to door transport in an enclosed trailer look pretty good. But given...
Hey Guys and Gals,
Anybody ever ship an FJ40 or any other vehicle cross country? I'm looking to possibly ship a car 600 miles (OK not exactly cross country) in an enclosed trailer and looking for some recommendations. Anybody ever book a transporter through Getcarrier.com?
Thanks,
Pete
When I put Bestop on my '76 20 years ago my dimension from windshield to back of tub didn't quite match their 81" but I think it was a little closer than your 83 1/2". One thing that is very important on tops, upholstery, headliners, et al is the temperature. I bet you'd be surprised how much...
Guys,
I think I have to agree with Doug and an earlier poster who referred to use of HeliCoils in his Porsche career. I'm right now considering the purchase of a '64 356SC. An old buddy who owned a 356 in the '60s gave me a copy of Porsche Technical Manual published in about 1964. I just this...
I like this stuff and have used it to fill holes like you're considering solder for. I've used it to repair pin holes in gas tank, bottom of doors, transmission hump, et al. Thing is last time I bought it around ten years ago it was $20 and now it's $40! It mixes to a stiff putty/paste that you...
I just got the windshield glass out of my '76 FJ40 yesterday and the weatherstripping is in good condition, although 45 years old. I removed the windshield because I'm painting the rig and plan to reuse the glass and weatherstripping. The rubber is untorn, uncracked, flexible but dirty. I've...
Thanks Guys. Looked a little closer and could see evidence of solder. Not wanting to try to solder it myself and thereby liquefying every other solder joint on the radiator I took it to a radiator repair guy.
Just discovered the side bracket for my radiator is loose from the tank at the top. Does anyone know if this bracket was attached to the tank by solder, brazing, TIG, or ? Any luck reattaching and if so, how did you do it?
If i can't get it fixed and decide to replace, should I go for aluminum...
You can probably see the white dots on the box and the pitman arm shaft which I put on by centering the shaft before I mounted the box so I think I'm still centered. I planned on doing what you suggest to be sure I have enough travel in both directions.
Thanks again for your reply to my...
