I was having a similar problem a while back and removed and cleaned the EGR tube this is inside the intake. This cured my hesitation, sputter, shutdown problems. Clean it, if nothing else it will eliminate this as a problem.

I have thought about doing this as well, I have a 62 but have the cracks in the dash at usual locations. As for filling the void you could use that expanding foam stuff. Im not quite sure how well it adheres to the dash material but its worth a shot. Im probably going to go...

So... update.
I finally got some time today to work on the cruiser and was going to check trouble codes and fuel pump. Well when the ignition is on the check engine light is not... It has the brake light and the A.T. Oil temp light on. This is ECU related right? I need to get my hands on...
Sorry for the delay on this thread. I just wanted to thank all who helped i really appreciate it. The problem eneded up being a combination of a bad air flow meter, and a somewhat dirty egr tube and valve. Thanks agan guys.
Is the mark just not visible enough? I remember reading a thread where someone put some kind of paint or maybe white out or something on the mark to make it more visible under the timing light.

Man three times in a month thats no fun. Thanks for the quick replies this is my daily driver so i am out of a ride right now. When i turn the key the engine turns over but just does not start. Looks like I am going to have to break down and drop the tank and test the pump to be sure.
