So I finally stopped fixating on the wires under my dash and tried this. I used my 12 volt, 200 amp jump starter and attached the clamps like you stated. When I hit the switch nothing happened. I’m guessing this means that the most likely answer was the correct one and I have a bad starter.
The switch I was referring to is right here. It seems like a factory hole. It goes to the black box pictured here. The push button switch goes through the hole on the right.
I’d ask the previous owner but I don’t have his contact info anymore. It’s been a few years since I’ve bought the truck. I never had to really mess with the switch and for the most part I forgot it was even there.
I’ll trace the wire and see if I can find what he had it wired to.
I just pulled and checked my fusible links. One of them looks like it melted at one point. Any idea how to test these or is there something I should be looking for?
Thanks for the help! I’ll try this and see what happens. I should have some help in the morning to try jumping the starter.
I checked the fuses in the dash but not the disable links. My battery terminals are new, tight, and clean.
I’m worried that with these wires pulled out I won’t be able to...
I replaced the carburetor gaskets on my FJ60 today and afterwards I went to start the truck and this is happening.
Underneath the dash the previous owner had some wires running to a push button switch and then to some kind of plug at the base of the steering column. I have them a slight tug...
I have a good friend who is looking at buying a very low mileage 1979 FJ40. The current owner is listing it with about 28,000 miles and saying it’s in great condition. It was up on Ebay but has since come down so my buddy can go inspect and hopefully buy it.
I own a FJ60 and I’m pretty...
Sounds like good advice. However, I think I’m at the point where I should just get the head off, get it checked for cracks and machined if necessary. It seems that I’ll wind up having to go down that road anyway. I’ve got another FJ60 owner that has been down this road about six times who has...
I refilled the coolant today and drove it around for 10-15 minutes. I already had drained the old fuel and replaced it with new fuel plus I stopped and added fifteen more fresh gallons today. After driving around my neighborhood I got home and the coolant reservoir tank was half empty. It was...
That’s a bold statement for an engine that has good power, starts fine, isn’t knocking, and just barely running rough when cold. Also, I have a ranch, 215 acres. So I could do that if I wanted, thanks.
I added Marvel Mystery Oil to the fuel and the engine oil. I also changed the thermostat and...
Could the problem be the PCV valve if my truck has been desmogged? Right now I’ve just got an open spot with nothing there on top of the valve cover. Does it need to be plugged?
Also I checked the coolant and it’s empty after just filling it up yesterday and only letting it idle. If I fix the...
After I get the thermostat installed I’ll drive it a little and check things out. Is there a way to check the head gasket? The first reply I got said that it was blown and not to drive it. Could it running rough have to do with that?
Thanks for all the help everyone!
