I don't know how feasible this solution is for your specific model year; but on my 1998, I replaced the head unit with an Android. I put movies on an SD card that I hide behind the unused access panel opposite the CDL/Hazard panel.

I've done this as well, but only on the driver side. Its placement on the passenger side didn't seem to work when I tried lining it up on my 98. I used to own a Discovery and missed the cup holders. Easily the best design I've experienced.
I just fished out mine. I wrapped a kabob skewer with duct tape and was able to stick the small piece to it. The huge piece fell opposite the oil fill toward the fan. See if yours fell that way. I missed it for about an hour. I accidentally posted in the 80 forum, but learned valuable information.
just tried pulling the grommet today. I had to fish out the big piece and one of the smaller pieces. Does anyone anticipate a problem with a smaller piece remaining in the cover?
