    97 FZE-80 starting problems

I am having problems getting the starter engaged. When I turn the key to start I just hear a click. If I keep turning the key on and off to start the starter will eventually engage and the motor starts easily. I thought I had a bad battery ( cleaned the battery terminals first and that didn't...

97 80 Series Spongy Brake Pedal

Spongy brake pedal started about 3 weeks ago. No brake fluid leaks. No noise. Brakes seem to work OK. Replaced pads 3 years ago and they only have about 12K miles on them. My next step was going to be bleed the brakes. Any suggestions?

Fan Shroud Not Fitting on OEM radiator

I just changed the radiator on my 97 FJ80 and I had the same problem and you are right about the trans cooler line. It must be angled down for the shroud to fit. (It's still a tight fit).

    A/C / Heater blower

!997 80 Series. The AC/Heater blower motor is stuck on one speed (low) no matter which of the speed control buttons I push. The blower does shut off when no button is pushed. I just had the Evaporator replaced (leaking). The AC and heat work fine, otherwise. The shop says the blower resistor is...

    obd II and a 97 FZJ-80

Thanks for the info. I'll have to do some troubleshooting to find out why my obdII port is dead. The fuse looks good but I'll ohm it out. Yours is the only reply I've received so far. I hope the obdII was installed on Toyotas too.

    obd II and a 97 FZJ-80

I've been looking at buying a ScanGauge II gizmo to help monitor fuel consumption (real time MPG) and maybe learn to drive more efficiently. Anyway, these ScanGauge gizmos utilize the OBD II port under the dash but my Actron OBD II AutoScanner doesn't work (i.e. it doesn't turn on) on my...

    80 Stereo

I've been trying to find the best way to upgrade the stereo in my "new" FZJ-80. I had to replace the rotted out foam surrounds in the front door speakers. That helped but it still did'nt sound great. The rear woofer wasn't working. There is a bass amplifier behind the right rear quarter panel...

    Bought my second Land Cruiser

Your "blown" door speakers probably have rotted out foam surrounds. I had the same problem when I bought my 80 recently. Those surrounds can easily be replaced. There is a guy on E-Bay that sells them for @ $5 a pair. Once repaired, those speakers will sound good as new.

    Sold my FJ-60 today

Sold my FJ-60 today with 201k miles for $3800. I was hoping to get more but there wasn't much interest in it around here (Niceville, FL). It looks good and runs great but I think a lot of young people were turned off by the 4-speed transmission, as in they don't know how to drive one. Anyway, it...

Test drove an 80 for the first time

Using midgrade or even premium gas should give a noticible increase in power. I got my 80 about a month ago and tried midgrade last fillup. I think there's a little more pep, but I haven't driven it enough yet to say for sure. The 80 owner's manual says use Octane rating 87 or higher. I always...

    FZJ-80 Stereo

Hey Slinger--Do you have any info on the wire color coding and signal on each wire that you described to the rear bass amp?

    FZJ-80 Stereo

OK--I replaced the "surrounds" in the two front door speakers and they sound much better. I also replaced the rotted out surround in the rear woofer ( the single 6" speakjer in the right rear panel) but the volume from this speaker is way too low. There is a small amp mounted on a bracket next...

    FZJ-80 Stereo

97 FZJ-80 stereo I complained on how bad the factory stereo sounded. Then I started thinking----Toyota went to the trouble of installing nine speakers and a fair amount of equalization and THIS is the resultant sound? No way! I decided to look at the speaker condition and-- lo and behold--...
