highly recommend the under drive at a minimum, if you are wanting lower low i also highly recommend the 3:1 low gears... P/T, under drive, low range gears 1000% my favorite upgrade(s) for my 100 series..
does it clunk every time you shift between R & D? what about between Park and Reverse?
when i first installed my hubs i was running in the same configuration and did so for 4 months maybe, no clunks at all.
have you checked all your u-joints?
Have you swapped your drive flanges back on?
I would probably just live with until you get the transfer case sorted out.
did you use OEM CV's? did you get the right C-Clip installed in the end of the CV in the hub?
there is usually a little play axially between the CV and the Hub assembly. if you are just running hubs in the front and still have the VC in the transfer case putting power to the front end you may...

Both, you can do the over or under drive for the High range, this is just swapping the idler gear no case modification needed. If you want to get a lower low range (crawling) you replace the low range gear set and this requires some modification (machining or grinding) of the transfer case...
the over/under drive gear folks are talking about swaps out the idler gear in the transfer case. the pitch diameter is the same but gains or loses a tooth basically to give 10%+/- it does change the wear pattern on the gears and produces some gear whine but you wont notice it over general road...
