I have hard copies of the FSM and Haynes. Neither say much other than to drive the shaft out with a drift. It's really in there.

It could be clutch chatter. When the clutch was replaced, the flywheel was not turned to get a flat square surface.

My 40 is a 1974 one owner. Drove it off the lot in June 1974 and its been my favorite vehicle ever since. With that said, I need some advice on disassembling the transmission. How do you get the countershaft out. Tried driving it out with a drift but it won't budge.

Your local PPG automotive will mix the right factory colors and load them into a spray can or sell you the paint and a can of hardener for you to spray yourself. Works really well.

I am the original owner of a 1974 FJ40. The transfer case is leaking and I have ordered a gasket set and the seals for the T Case. I am in need of the spring. Does anyone have a source for the compression spring? Toyota no longer carries them. Thanks

I am not familiar with the reverse rotation water pumps. On the older style SBC pump the heater hoses go from the water pump bypass to the heater and from the heater to the intake manifold. Are you ab;e to route your hoses that way and eliminate the T completely?
