A few other clean up items included getting blanks in for the rear vent switches.
Repainting front bumper and adding fog lights (since the wires for the lights were just dangling around and not being used!)
And replacing the cabin filter. I was pretty shocked to see how dirty it was after...
With that done, I decided to fix a few issues with the flatbed. First I added some mud flap materiel between the cab and flatbed so that I don't hear rocks flipping off the tires and hitting the cab anymore.
I also cleaned out the spring seats since they had filled up with a lot of dust and...
And after using some other scraps and 2nd row floor mat it covered up the back area good enough for me!
Then it was time to cut up some old seat leather and wrap some plywood to frame rear window out.
I again just screwed these pieces through the existing metal tubing to hold in place...
Moving on into the interior it was just a matter of finishing out the area with foam, plywood, left over carpet and leftover seat leather. I used metal roofing screws to attach the plywood as needed so that the carpet would have something to attach to later.
Then it was time to fillet some...
Just to close out this build, Franky had to go under the knife again as the reverse went out in the transmission. Since I needed to tear it apart again I decided to finish a few things that hadn't been finished wiring and interior wise. So after removing the bed I rerouted the passenger side...
Nice, I was thinking about a GX470 build and was wondering if you could post some more pictures of the fenders without the plastic. I am surprised more people don't delete that. Is the Metal awkward to fill in or something??
As for using pressure treat lumber for the bed, it has held up well and works great for noise reduction hauling stuff. Last summer I replaced the fuel pump and it was easy enough to get to after removing a few of the boards, so overall I would consider it a win.
Having the samurai windshield...
So I am about a year into having a chopped rig and just thought I would point out a few lessons learned at this point. First of all having a 6'x6' bed has been pretty handy. It works pretty well for hauling around loads under 700 lbs were you don't really notice a difference. But once you...
Made a dump run yesterday and got a pretty close final weight of 5400 lbs with a full tank and me inside and a toolbox (another 300lbs). Based on my previous weigh in, it looks like about 250 lbs was shaved off of the total vehicle weight.
I also did some final checks on the approach...
So finally got around to finishing out the bumper and center fill piece and after a little paint applied in my paint booth (aka back yard) they were ready for install.
Ended up looking ok with the expanded metal imo, and at least it will be hard for sticks to poke the radiator.
After a...
So I took the first load of stuff for my move this weekend. The truck still handled pretty good with about 6-700 lbs in back. I did notice it leaning more than normal on the sharp corners (it's a 70 mile drive to the new place through a river canyon road) with the load in. On the way back...
Tried to get the bumper finished out last night and of course I ran out of wire. So I jumped on putting new torsion bars in.
They went in pretty easy. Not sure if this is a common trick or not, but when I installed them I barely had the tire off of the ground. As I tightened them down...
So got the "truck" back yesterday and surprisingly enough the alignment was still in spec. I was a little surprised at this considering I put new UCA's in and then cranked the torsion bars as high as they would go (in anticipation of putting new ones in this week for a front lift).
