it may be that shackle reversal was improperly installed. these don't ride like caddys to start with, so any error adds up for more of a buck board ride

get rid of the old sealant as clean as you possibly can. i'd probably pick it out best as you can then gently wire wheel the residuals to clean it up. then prime it, automotive seam sealer, n a coat of paint.

@wlandis3 , that is not that bad. pick up some rudimentary tools for body work n start pickin' away at it. even a 110v welder will do what needs doing on there for welding. there's a number of threads in here showing that area being repaired. i find the key is patience.
