Just going to say, while it does take longer to swap in a v8 than it does to read this 144 page thread it is pretty dang cool when you can drive your 80 again. Took me around 15mo to get it to this point, a bit longer and way more expensive than...
I have the radiator pulled off right now and the engine back out again. With a 6L90 you most likely will not have to persuade the firewall but it will be tight upfront. I plan to go with dual e fans to hopefully same some room.
For Mosser. I...
@Tinkertoy
How much clearance do you have between the front accessory drive and the radiator?
Also, how much did you have Moser trim off the 6l90e output shaft when it was resplined?
I have a 2WD 6l90e that I need to have resplined and...
Engine Placement.... My current status. LS 6.0 with 6L90 Marks Adapter on the original cross member. The 6L90 tranny does require a few extra steps since the spline count has to be changed. (Thanks to Mosser Engineering...quite affordable.)...
Thanks. The dual filler neck came with the Long Range America tank originally, which is sourced from Australia. The fuel filler probably didn't come from an 80 series since the vent tubes don't fit and I need to modify them.
I haven't posted much lately, vacation..other projects...limited weekends. I am currently tearing the engine bay apart...that wiring harness...what the hell. I now have a few tricks thanks to Mud. 😁
The new Fuel Sender arrived from ISSPRO for...
Working on building my own drop down fridge slide. Going with aluminum to keep the weight down. Made the mount and the arms so far. Waiting on the drawer slides to show up and need some more material for the fridge cradle. Designing it around my...
just dive in, unbolt things as you go. I removed everything from the front of the truck, bumper, rad, headlights, rad supports, might as well just cut most of the hoses and replace them anyways so that saves some time.
remove driveshafts
I cut...
Since the vehicle had been pretty much baselined prior to my purchasing it I had the luxury of not really needing to do anything to it immediately.
Early on in my planning for an overland vehicle I had decided that it would need to have a bed...
Another angle for the chop.
Wire mount in fuel pump
I followed Jason at Ozark Overland for this one to find a location. I did need to buy and extra 4ft of 3/8 fuel hose. Use the provided bracket and I o0ened up the holes to use bolts and...
Next I started checking the exhaust manifold clearances. The left manifold points right at the top of the frame. I found this out earlier when I test fit it with the body off. My initial plan was to cut off and reweld the outlet flange so it goes...
well, this arrived unexpectedly.. 7 days after buying on ebay, truck just backs into my driveway to drop this off today. 2020 L96 + 6l90e
I worked on installing the dual filler today. I had to cut short the vent tubes due to interference with...
It looks like one good thing about using a GEN 3 Trailblazer/Envoy/SSR as your donor car is the size/shape of the gas pedal.
I only needed to cut (and slightly bend) a 3" piece of flat bar to move the gas pedal an inch to the left. It clears...
I ran these options through my head when planning my swap. I bought a DBC throttle body, but I ended up keeping the DBW as making the cruise control work was a requirement, and installing the pedal and control unit and harness isn't that much...
I am sure I missed a few things here and there, but this is pretty close to an accurate total. I was really good about logging purchases as I made them. This does account for selling the trans and tcase from the Yukon, the 1FZ and A442F, the cats...
Just LS Things- Troubleshooting:
I didn't have any issues that I recall with our actual install, but I want to post this in case it helps someone else.
Issue 1: Running lean on 1 bank and rich on the other. Even though I had installed 2 brand...
I needed the CDL wiring to work, which can be done using a combination of @rockrod 's post about IH1 and IH2 connector pinouts and the EWD. In my case, rockrod was not 100% exact to my needs, but gave me a good jumping off point. This was time...
After all of that fun with wiring, it was almost time for a start up! I ended up using a different fuse box, because the one I bought had an issue where the terminals would not snap in securely. That didn't seem great. So I found another one that...
For the heater lines, I took this opportunity to delete the rear heat since I have a drawer system I am building back there anyways. A little junkyard visit netted me an excellent solution off of a Sequoia. I just trimmed this hose and attached...
A lot has happened since the last post in the thread! Swap was completed a few weeks ago, had about 2 weeks of troubleshooting before GSMTR. I can go into that later in the thread, but it had everything to do with a set of 300k mile fuel...
