I'm continuing to research this and from what I've read 80 axle seals are prone to leaking, allowing gear oil to mix with the wheel grease. As a result some have adopted the oil bath method, permanently removed the axle seal and skipped the grease. Bearing are lubed with gear oil migrating...
So after a little more investigation I’ve determined that I don’t have outer axle seals or grease in the rear hubs & bearings, both sides. I think someone did this on purpose, trying to make oil bath bearings. If they forgot seals I think I’d still have some signs of grease.
It appears to...
Can I get that contact too? I need gears and an ARB installed. Great timing, I just pulled the rear apart today.
My rear bearings has no grease, none, looked brand new, coated in gear oil. This isn't normal, right?
Thanks. I had a lot of fun!
I'm working hard to get a group together for a June or July run next year. PDX to the border is a long ways solo, so I'm hoping to get a couple other trucks interested. So far it's just me but that didn't stop me last June.

Yeah, I’ve looked at some of the home brew racks and they just don’t compare. I think it’s worth the extra cost. This thing is solid.
However, maybe we can talk Red Sox Cruiser in to a group buy and get a better price.
I don’t have third row seats installed so can't answer that.
I'm fairly new to MUD but wanted to share a new product a friend in my local Cruiser club shared with me. I carry a lot of gear and I'm always looking for more storage in my 80. LabRak recently developed a cargo shelf that looked like it would fit my needs perfectly. The shelf exceeded my...
I can share the story. I’ll try to keep it reasonable. We made it about 350 miles on Day 1, about 60 miles from Bay of LA. Passenger side Knuckle fell off.
I answered this post way back in March. I’m in Oregon, realslow80 is in Puerto Rico & the truck was in Florida. We obviously never meet...
