Builds The Rustbucket: 1988 HJ61 frame off project

Hello! Thank you for the kind words. It sure always sucks to broke a bone or something up. The pain and downtime working on Cruisers... GREAT looking HJ60! You have all the chrome bling bling and a sunroof, wish i had those. I've had great progress lately, right hand side sill and wheel arch...

Pic request: rocker panel/wheel arch shape

It can't be that bad. Here we have plenty of diesel parts around, but good body parts are deep under a rock. I have been looking for this repair panel for a while without luck. They simply are non existent. That leads me in to making one. 😩

Pic request: rocker panel/wheel arch shape

Yes, doing it all by myself. I'm by no means a professional at all, i'm learning as i go further down the rabbit hole. I'm using a MIG/MAG welder. Check out my build thread, link in my signature. :)

Pic request: rocker panel/wheel arch shape

Oh yes! These helps me a ton! Thank you @CenTXFJ60 PLUS you made me just a little bit envious of those rust free panels... we simply do not have them. 😢

Pic request: rocker panel/wheel arch shape

Thanks a ton @CenTXFJ60 !! Looks like the panel is dead straight, right? Also, looks like the door corner is straight too. Could you please take me pics from inside the wheel arch? Front and rear. I have no clue of the original shape there too.

Pic request: rocker panel/wheel arch shape

Hi. I'm looking for a similar pictures as below. Rear doors are slightly curved at the bottom, does the rocker panel follow the same shape? If somebody with original panels could take me similar photos I would be Super thankful. Does not matter if taken from left or right hand side.

Builds The Rustbucket: 1988 HJ61 frame off project

Hello! Guess what? I have made progress! Not a ton but i'm moving forward, slowly. Let's start what's up with the body. It is on a rotisserie completely stripped up, everything that bolts to it has been removed. Even all the factory sound insulation and undercarriage protection. Both inner...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Oh sorry, i somehow managed to miss the rust converter part completely! I have never used it but looks like it might be good for small and hard to reach areas. I have access to pro sandblasting equipment tho so that usually gets the job done. Thanks for the tip, even i messed it up a...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Filler is for fine finishing welds or scratches, not for rust repair. Period. IMO it just makes no sense to hide the rust underneath something that does not last. Rear wheel arches are done exactly that way and now they are about to fall off. Repair panels and/or new steel is the only way to...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Well, not the weekend but last week. Finally found me something what i always wanted to have. A troopy. This one is a 1986 BJ75, 306k km's on clock, 3B+H55F, diff locks, winch... rust. Build thread will be started eventually, i have my HJ61 resto, 540 and HDJ80 in queue before attempting to...

Growing the family -> HDJ80 VX

So, i have been daily driving the HDJ for a little over a month now. And i'm impressed. I and many others were very skeptical about the HX35 being too big with number 16 turbine housing. But it prove us wrong. There is plenty of go after 1800rpms. Yes, that's higher rpms than on stock CT26...
