Gas was $4.00/gal not too long ago. Just filled up for $1.89. Pretend you doubled your mpg...of course thats silly, but unfortunately so is trying to get "good" mpg from an 80.
"Need to get a 2.5 or 4 inch lift with bigger tires before I take it off-road. Stock LC seems kinda low to me."
Yep, but...I have taken the wifes stock 80 with lockers on some fun trails where guys with lifts and 33"+ tires unlocked were spotting each other and struggling in a few spots. My...
Dang..that sucks. Always post up on here to find someone in the area that can look at a potential rig. Not as good as seeing it yourself, but better than going in blind.
You might look for a decent rig in your area with a blown engine and try to pick it up cheap. Use your ebay engine...
Just traded my 60 for an '87 turbo 4runner with 124K miles in great shape. Nice little rig and the turbo is a noticeable increase over a regular 22RE. Coolest part is the digital (Ala Night Rider) dash.
I always had a battle getting my 60 to pass here in Larimer County. One year I had a shady shop known to pass everything do it and then I registered it in Weld Cty the following years (long story, but it was legal) until they did away with it here. I dread testing coming back, but it will.
Just sold my 60. I had 33x12.50s and stock gearing & tranny. Great for around town and down the interstate, but bad going up I-70 and really noticeable loss when wheeling. If you are for sure going with a 5 speed in the future, I would go one step lower than 4:11s, end up with better offroad...
'85 FJ60 2.5" 33 BFGs Locker Colorado SOLD!!!
Well, we bought a '97 so it's time for the 60 to move on to a new home. It runs good and could benefit from a bit of TLC, but I would drive it anywhere tomorrow. She gets alot of "thumbs up", has been a great weekend wheeler, and my overnight...
Yep, I split mine when I did the body lift.
Never bothered to fill the gap back in, I just run it with a 1" gap between the top & bottom 1/2. Runs cool so far.
Just screwed a set of the cheap, black, 62 style, CCOT mirros on. They look great and it's nice to be able to see behiond me now, but they are poor quality and vibrate quite a bit. Probably ok for my rig but I would spring for the real ones if it was a daily driver.
I looked hard at the FJC until I sat in one. The visibily issue was a deal breaker. I'm used to wheeling in my 60 w/no tint and love having big windows all the way around. I have a '97 80 that will be replacing the 60 in a few years as a wheeling rig. Hopefully, when I wear the 80 out...
