Good to know guys, I knew I could get info here, great forum!!
Going to find out if I can adapt my 700R4 or maybe find an A440
with overdrive in it. (I need it to drive on highways too...)
Thank you.
I thought about buying this as it is bolted behind a 2H:
I haven't seen enough diesels here in the States from this vintage so I don't know
what I'm looking at, I think H55's are smoother on the top cover than the H42's:
Probably wouldn't be able to find a rebuild kit anyways:rolleyes:
It's...
Okay, got it, mild turbo on a budget.
I say it's totally do-able. Keep it simple.
Look into thicker head gasket, definitely replace the head bolts
with quality ones like ARP. Put a little money/effort into
the intake manifold. Do you weld? You can build it like an
exhaust but using...
Do you plan to drop the compression ratio to about 8 to 1???
You will also need to do some mods to the Headgasket, and
maybe ring the head too, otherwise it will grenade pretty quick.
Is the goal to still use pump gas?
If you want early spool up, you need to decrease the volume
of the...
Got 'em, thanks Ige!
I've worked with composites for a couple of decades:
One comment, I think the plastic is urethane-based, if it is, the
plastic will be sensitive to UV sun rays over time and will turn brown and get a bit brittle. IF they are poured urethane, I'd recommend a coat of paint...
I bought lock nuts with the hollow threaded stock,
So I fastened the new part by putting a lock nut on each side of the 2 Stalk pieces (and using red thread lock)
the view from inside the signal looking down,
All ready to bolt back on my Pig so I don't get busted!
(a coat...
I wasn't able to acquire the exact same part in short time so I could still drive my Pig. So I improvised-
This is 1/2 inch hollow round stock from a lamp shop on Flea-Bay, the part was only a buck for 3 feet, of course the shipping was like 8 bucks (I bought lock nuts too);)
First...
Hi All,
Been busy with other projects but really enjoy this site when I have the chance. I searched the archives for a repair to the 1975 style turn signal stalk that attaches to the fender.
For some time the DS signal was loose, but the other day it just "fell off" DANG IT!!!:mad...
very nice! You look to have the power and wire speed just right for the way you are doing the welds. Are you using 0.030 wire?
Looks like you are able to go about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per hit. Welds will go great like this unless you hit thinner/rusty areas.
Keep up the great...
Nice!:beer::beer:
Quite an improvment. The welds look like they are penetrating into the steel pretty well. Matching the metal thickiness is so important when possible. Getting rid of gaps really helps too.
Keep the pics coming!
hey Laguna80,
Your welds are getting better. You might consider turning up
the power and reducing the wire speed, to reduce the "booger
effect" More penetration and less grinding:)
Be sure to do short bursts with the juice turned up (like 1/4" burn,
skip an inch, then burn another 1/4"...
Hey Boots4!
Looking great. One of the overlooked sources of noise on the
4bt is the oil pan. You can cut somewhere around 3-5 dB, depending upon the deadener used.
Covering the pan with bedliner does very little. The most effective
acoustic suppressor would be something like a second oil...
Got this done by one of the better shops in town:
They used the sleeve method on it.
While they were at it they TIG welded the housing to the tube
as the tube can rotate in extreme cases.
Now I just need to get it shaved... :hhmm:
