Made a little more progress this week. Got the front axles together and mounted onto the frame…..sending her off to get first round of final paint done on Saturday. Here are a few pics.
Showed up 2021 "ran when parked" in '97. Needed absolutely everything except a body lol
Current day '24 after replacing/restoring anything I could get my hands on.
Since it is so clean now would be a good time to put some heat shield on the bottom of that, it will reduce heat & sound , it's self stick, has semi rigid metalic surface and is flexible so it will conform nicely to that piece. I think wngrog...
These were not painted originally.
Can't remember what vehicle I pulled these out of by this is how Toyota did heat shields on the 40 series.
Splash guards in the engine bay were painted black.
As of this afternoon, gotten this far. For some reason, the mounting flange on these headers is taller than the 2F manifold so I did need to trim the insulator to have it lie fully flat against the intake. Wiring is next and drilling in for the...
I am glad to hear this because my 40, the tractor that it is, drives like a "tractor". If Bilstein's would improve the ride I am all in. If I could only solve the wondering PS issue!
Dont hate on the open air garage (I'm just jealous too).....I'm gonna upgrade to add a tent/shelter so I can work in the rain this summer lol.
Following for more info on the biltsteins
I just went and measured my rear angles. I used the brake drum and unbolted the d/s from the pinion on the other end. It looks like I'm about 2-2 1/2" from parallel.
Thank you all. Especially the part about the potential of it filling with gas if using the block-off. I think that answers my question and will pull it to have it done more permanent. While I'm at it might as well pull everything off and...
If I recall correctly (it was looooong ago) when I had mine welded they drilled both ends of the crack, something about relieving stress and then welded the whole thing.
5-ish year bump.. looking forwards to giving this 40 some love and attention. Thanks @landwagon for the sale and picking us up at the airport.
My dad and I flew from Orlando to West Virginia with a few tools and spares and drove this one 800...
I’m only in about 25 or 30 miles so far and really enjoying them. And I’m comparing this with the cheaper yellow Bilsteins that came on the rig when I bought it. But it’s a massive difference, especially getting into steep driveways, over rolling...
I think it boils down to what you pull thru the amp meter. I know that on my rig, fuel injection and electric pump are outside the wiring that passes thru into the fuse box / amp meter.
6 degree shims front and rear, plus a balanced DS with new bearings solved my post lift vibrations. I was ready to pull the trigger on a DC if that hadn't worked.
Alright....I've put a few hundred miles on the Bilstein shocks now and let the 'confirmation bias' wear off. I can't really find the right words to describe the difference. The best I can come up with, they are much more of a supple ride than...
It is a 2.5" lift. I was just in my shop looking to see if I was running caster shims.....and I do not have any up front. I'm not 100% sure exactly what shims I'm running in the rear. Maybe they are 6 degrees to point my rear pinion at the...
To setup a double cardin you should rotate the pinion up so it's pointing at the transfer cases output. I think Tom Woods' website has a tutorials on single and double cardin joints.
I'm getting ready to order a shims to adjust for frt...
To answer your actual question...
I just finished adding some 2 degree shims to a '78 FJ40 with OME suspension a few minutes ago.
Rig was on the hoist to reseal the trany/TC, and while it was there I...
Removed all four ubolts and both...
