What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Passed the CA smog test, again. It surprises me how well this old truck does. This is the first year I didn't monkey with with the fuel. I worry about this Fed truck in CA, so for past tests I'd roll into the shop on a nearly empty tank with a 50-50 mix of 91 and E85. This year, just used 91 and...

    2F Oil Loss

Hey, best of luck with this! Perhaps you already know this, but it was a giant PITA for me. When you replace the seal on the timing cover, it's a good idea to fill the back of the seal with grease. The grease will help the seal retain that little spring when you're putting the pulley back on...

Anyone have a solution for replacing this door limiter bushing?

There's another pin involved that's not shown in the picture, above, and that's what SOR reproduces ... and then sells a 3 dollar thing for $26. :). I think ...

Anyone have a solution for replacing this door limiter bushing?

This is the limiter for a 76+ front door. As far as I can tell, the whole contraption comes as an assembly and that particular bushing isn't its own part. It managed to wear itself flat on one side over the years and it's causing a nasty rattle. It's like a plastic sandwiched between metal, all...

What weather stripping am I missing?

Once you replace the rubber around the top, you still may have small holes where water can work its way in. Seam sealer will fix that. Don’t forget to check between the fiberglass top and the metal frame that mounts above the windshield. Sometimes wind noise is enough to reveal a gap.

    Builds An Accidental Frame Off..................

Wow. It’s crazy cold up there. You get problems south people didn’t even know were problems. What do you actually do to keep your vehicles running? Just go with really light oil weights? At what temp does coolant become slush?

    1978 FJ40, 2f, Carb, Vacuum, Rpm’s, timing

This guy has a good video. I suppose you can debate about the importance of doing this when the air cleaner on. Should you have it on? I suppose. Will you notice a difference? I can't. And it's a lot easier to do it with it off.

    1978 FJ40, 2f, Carb, Vacuum, Rpm’s, timing

Did you explore the lean drop method here? Setting your idle mix 650ish RPMs is correct when done. Set your timing to approx 7 degrees before TDC before you get started.

Mystery - Flat spot in acceleration

Ya. What everyone else is saying. It's not hard or expensive to ensure your timing is correct and your vacuum is good. And when those things are checked ... accelerator pump.
