Update: Well, I talked my trusty assistant (wife) into clamboring into my lifted 40 and cranking it while I did some test light work. I've got power to the positive side of the coil while the truck is cranking, but not while the key is "on". The truck will run with the key in the "start"...

I'll post a pic later...gotta go to work. But my set up is points, not electronic. Not sure what a semi-electronic ignition is...?

I stuck on Ohm meter on the coil. On the primary my reading is 1.8. On the secondary my reading is 11,700. My LC repair manual does not have the specs, but in a general sense, these are within a normal range. If one of you guys has coil specs for a '76 coil, please feel free to weigh in...
