My 40 has always had a whirring/humming sound, kind of high pitched, that seems like it comes from under the passenger side floor board. It increase in pitch with increases in speed regardless of engine rpm or gear. Just a steady increase as speed goes up. After doing some heavy towing for...
I would assume you remove the hinge pins and leave the hinge half attatched to the door. If so, how do those hinge pins come out? Mine have a round head, no nut or anything. Do you just tap them out with a drift or what?
I like the non powered pistol grip ones. Don't have to worry about damaging areas where the grease goes into a bellows, vice being able to ooze out. One handed operation. Make sure you get a good gun with o-rings at both ends. Some of the cheapies don't have them. I made the mistake of...
I got the two you mentioned, there is so much dirt and grease caked on around the the hubs that I can't really see anything until I get it cleaned off, except on the dome shaped assembly (again, I dont know the nomenclature) that the wheel assembly actually pivots on, grease seems to be readily...
78 Fj40, I found a grease fitting on every joint of the steering linkage except one. This is going to sound a little confusing...
The one on the member that the steering stabilizer connects to that runs accross to the passenger side. (Sorry, I don't know the name of the rod.) The...
Well if you opt not to go with the PTO, I'd like to know your source. I would pay it for a PTO in a heartbeat, just cause I like hard to come by stuff and the originality of it. Especially if it is complete and as you say like new. Most of the ones I've seen would need extensive...
Stocks springs, no binding, shocks dont appear to be leaking or binding, or even bottoming out. Like one of the replies mentioned, I hit a big bump or rut and the bounce just keeps going..
My 78 40 bounces like nothing I've experienced before. And even on seemingly smooth pavement, its up and down up and down. After driving down the street I feel like I have spinal injuries. Could this just be worn out shocks? I don't know how old they are, they're OME's.
Just got the 40 today, on the way home from work the speedo just flops to zero. I haven't even gotten a chance to find a manual yet. Any suggestions, common failures to check? ??? Oh yeah its a 78.
Is there a way to recalibrate a speedo on a 40 so that it reads accurately with oversize tires? I don't want to change the gearing in the diffs or anything.
