I had mine replaced at the Toyota dealer in Tyson's, but it was another company that showed up to perform the install. I can't say whether or not they used rivets as opposed to sheet metal screws.
They did the trim install correctly though. I've seen some people cut it short and then it ends...
Ok, I admit to having NO experience with mag locks, and I'm not sure how small they make them or how much they cost, but what about using one of those with a fail secure electric strike? No power runs to it and it remains locked. Hit a switch to send some current and it pops open.
Now...
Sonk, I have the EXACT same thing happening with mine. I even replaced the front diff with a factory assembled unit, and am still getting the groan between 65-75 only. Take my foot off the gas and it's smooth, give it some load and it starts groaning and I feel a vibration through the pedals...
The man speaks truth. You're looking at $1200-$1400 easy for a roof rack like this. It's the same with rear bumpers. Everyone wants one for $800-$1000 that has receiver, dual swing outs, etc., etc. but that would put a fabricator out of business.
There are some other options to consider...
Have you checked your diff fluid or drain plug for shavings? I just took mine in for a 60k service and mentioned that I have a slight vibe between 65-75 (only when on the gas). There were a ton of shavings on the drain plug but the fluid looked great. Needless to say, I'm still confused and...
The side markers from overseas are much better than what we got here. They actually have the rubber gasket around them like the rear markers and not the crappy plastic gasket. TLC4x4 has the overseas markers from time to time. Check with them.
I also had the full length Wilderness rack and loved it. Very strong and great dimensions (they are available in 4" and 6" heights). As already mentioned, the knocks against it are weight (110 lbs.) and the crappy "floor kit" that Garvin produces for it. If I were doing it again, I'd get...
ARB does offer the D2XL spring. It's an extra leaf designed for the rear leaf pack that will give additional load carrying capacity.
If you wanted to go with custom spring packs, I would seriously consider Deaver as they are located in So California and have a good reputation. They can make...
To actually use it after modding it for the past 8 months. It's been a couple years since I've had it on the trail.
Oh, and to keep buying crap for it.
I've been posting this in several sections on Mud because it looks like a pretty good deal for a lightweight, aluminum roof rack. Great dimensions for an 80 series (86.5" x 54.5"). The fact that Aluminess is located down in San Diego is a bonus!
Anyway, I thought I'd pass it along in case...
I just posted this over on the Expedition Builds section but thought I'd put it here too since Aluminess is right in the San Diego area.
I've always liked their roof racks and noticed they have one on sale that would be a great fit for the 60 or 80 series (86.5" x 54.5"). I'm not sure if...
