There are 4 areas of rust on the body that need to be cut out with new metal welded in. The largest is about the size of a grapefruit. The frame and interior floor boards were surprisingly rust free! All rust repair will be done in house (myself...

Head gasket is not that bad. The rust I absolutely despise doing and would most like farm out in the future :D Does it look like anything else serious needs sorting other than the HG and baselining? $2k doesn't seem terrible unless the body is...

So I got the mount and discharge pipe back and mounted to the engine. I've already redesigned the discharge pipe and have an order in for 6 units (one is for me). We've started the process for casting and have met with a pattern shop and will...

Thank you! I’ve been busy trying to make sure the business moves forward while the wifey heals. She’s doing 100% better compared to one year ago but she still a little bit to go. 🍺

Add another to forgetting to double-check I've tightened things. It's always something minor and easy to fix but just causes hell until I do. This thread is awesome. I love seeing these trucks brought back to life. You're going about it the...

My recollection from looking at the JDM imports market was that 80s were $16 - $20k *starting*. You'll see them listed for great prices on Japanese export sites, but shipping, a registered importer, and parts needed to register them in the US...

Hi! My name is Beka. I live in St. Petersburg, Russia. English is my third language, so be ready for what the heck I'm writing about. Mine is on top, not below :) I'm perusing two goals by creating this thread: 1. Sharing information. As my...

I picked up a new intake for my upcoming engine refresh. Pockets are a LOT lighter, but it’s the best barn find I have ever gotten. Thank you to the seller and member who gave me the lead! I’m the 3rd mud member to own it, and this time it’s...

Gotta be frustrating on the business side. My son ordered a CAI for his Gladiator 3 months ago and it’s still back ordered. Other than filters, that’s the only thing the company makes so if production is stalled because of supply problem you...

I'm starting to think l should just pull the trigger on the box rebuild as it's certainly the most annoying thing I have going on with my truck. I'm at 167k miles, so I guess it's not out of line that it'd be worn.

Yep! That’s the ticket right there! I suspect the fresh leather will shrink a bit in the Florida heat, what with sweaty hands and all, so jury is still out on how the final product will look; the thread might need to be tightened down some...

Repainted the grille and trim around the headlights. Also finished up the retro fits I've been working on.

Amazon or local parts store. I don't remember where I got mine from but it should have the dye, light, and stylish yellow glasses to see it.

Yep @flintknapper that was exactly my assumption. The vacuum pulled them a certain way and/or allowed them to expand ever so slightly and seal enough to hold vacuum. Once pressure was applied, fail!

^^^^ 👍 One of the pitfalls of A/C work is that sometimes the system will hold 'vacuum' but not pressure. This is especially true of compressor front seals and pin holes in rubber barrier hoses. Their natural position being under pressure, then...

Your system sounds like mine. Like I mentioned, after a few tries of pulling a vacuum and it seeming to hold but leak once charged, I put the UV dye in and found all of the other leaks. That was when I took the nuclear option and just replaced it...

Gotcha. Sounds good, take the readings and let us know. Then when/if you change the other components you can start anew with the evacuation, pump down and recharge. I can walk you through it if need be....or do a search here, we've gone over it...

Mine had several leaks at the condensor on the bottom. Couldn't see/hear it but after putting the UV dye in the system I was able to see it. The evaporator core under the dash had a small leak as did the o-rings. My experience after chasing leaks...

Did the head gasket on mine at 316K miles and I could see the crosshatch still. Just a little carbon build-up at the top of the cylinders so I believe. Good luck with the build!
  • cvenom96
Yep it's on the list. Already have everything to do it except the time!
