Leaning out fuel mixture when driving into higher altitude

Thanks for the info. I’ll have to figure out the timing advance with the HEI distributor. I’ve never messed with timing.

Leaning out fuel mixture when driving into higher altitude

I forgot to mention one important factor. My ignition is not stock. I upgraded to a DUI HEI distributor. Not sure if that makes a difference. Should I assume I can still advance the timing to get the same higher altitude benefits?

Leaning out fuel mixture when driving into higher altitude

Is it complicated? Would I still need to lean the fuel mix? Is there a video I could watch to see how to adv timing?

Leaning out fuel mixture when driving into higher altitude

I live in Oklahoma but try to get to Colorado a couple of times a year with my stock 1981 FJ43. My practice as been to adjust the carburetor and lean out the fuel mixture as I gain altitude. It has worked with some success (steep or moderate grades at altitude put me in the very slow lane) and...

    The Do's and Don't's of shifting btw 2H, 4H and 4L

I have heard several things about locked hubs and shifting into and out of 4WD in a stock FJ40/43. Hoping I can get clarification. I understand it is good to drive somewhat regularly in 4WD to keep everything turning and oiled. Makes sense. It is also occasionally a good idea to lock the hubs...

    Fj40 seat bolt holes

It’s not US. Technically a 43 but that shouldn’t be a factor I’m thinking. I appreciate the intel. Is there a source for these specs?

    Fj40 seat bolt holes

I am installing bucket seats and a Tuffy center console using the bracket from Cool Cruisers. Unfortunately, the instructions say to use the seatbelt bracket bolts and my seatbelts attached directly to the seats (not the floor). My tub has threaded holes (look like M12) but I cannot find bolts...

Wanted Tuffy 6.5" console - Western Washington

I have a question about fit. I am also looking at the Tuffy for a 1981 FJ43 and wondering if it will fit, assuming I may need a bracket as sold by CoolCruisers out of Texas. Do you know if the mounting holes in the console line up with your floorboard holes?

    FJ40 Tie Rod End Tips

OkMike, I have a question about replacing worn dust boots on the tie rod and drag link ends. This is my first time to do any real repair work and some of the boots are torn so I’m replacing them. Big job for me. The new boots are dissimilar from the flatter orig boots but seem to hold grease as...

    Cab Overhead Console Design Search

I have an '81 FJ43 with bench seats and would like to create storage in the cab for maps, flashlight, headlamp, pen and pencils, knife, coins, etc and would like to see if anyone has built an overhead console (there is plenty of head room). My thought was to fabricate a shallow (4 inch) shelf...
