    Heater issue

All great tips above, but it's weird that it works well initially. Just a guess as we don't have real cold conditions much here, but could it be that the heater going cold is related to the engine getting properly warm then the thermostat opening up & letting cold coolant from the radiator into...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Thanks for the tips, my electric windows are also getting very lazy! Where are those regulator switches? In the door or ? Cheers Clint

Leaf over axle on a 70 series???

Keep in mind 70 series axles are quite narrow. Tippy enough std. If going to the trouble of re-making spring mounts etc etc for SOA it would be worth checking if axles from something wider could be used. Cheers Clint

    HZJ77 Ball Joint Grease Fitting

You need to strip down the hubs & ball joints to grease them properly. To do it properly you want to make sure the CV, the kingpin bearings & the locking hubs are all cleaned & greased with fresh stuff & that means disassembly. You can unbolt the flange at the back of the hub that has the seal...

My LC78 Troopy overlander, Design and Build in New Zealand

Some great work there! Nice detail over on your website too, cool to see your designs taken from idea to reality. Where did you get the adjustable stays for the back door tables? I've been thinking about adding storage & improving my basic door table along similar lines & those look like just...

    LJ78 Transfer Case Removal

Malteser is correct. A mechanic friend told me the easy way is to just remove the trans & transfer as one unit then disassemble further with it out so I've done that both times I've needed to remove it. The reasoning is that by the time you have everything disconnected from the transfer case it...

    KZJ71 lift with 80series springs

I don't think 80 series shocks will fit. Are your KZJ shocks eye top, pin bottom like an LJ? If so the 80 series rear shocks won't fit as they are eye bottom. I think 80 series fronts are pin/pin so no go there either. Cheers Clint

    Need clutch help

Pedal to the floor but clutch not disengaging suggests an issue with the hydraulics. If it was the throwout or pressure plate sticking the pedal would not move down much. If the slave is making noises I would replace that too, they aren't expensive IIRC. Sticking or passing cylinders are more...

new member introduction - BJ73 - Dan from Romania

I'd go one colour. IMHO the 73/74 series always look really good with the FRP top painted the same as the rest but I'm not sure how well paint sticks to it. One thing to think about if doing panel & paint work is to chop out the area from under the tail lights forward to the wheel arches - this...

Part time to full time conversion, anyone?

80 series diff offset is the same as 70 series but you may want to check on width as I think the 80 series are wider in the chassis. If using old parts be sure to give the centre diff lock mechanism a check & rebuild, they can sometimes be a problem as those trucks get older & you may not...

    4wd light flashing

Having a look at the workshop manual the vac shifted t-case does actually have a detent ball on the shifter mechanism. Cheers Clint

    4wd light flashing

The standard system in my LJ71, & I assume other cruisers with the same vac operated split-case transfer case, is that vacuum is continuously applied to the t-case diaphragm to hold it in 2wd/4wd as required. I don't think there is much of a detent to hold the 2wd/4wd shift mechanism in place...

    4wd light flashing

Sorry I don't have many pics of that but the process was very simple, if you have ever successfully installed a relay in a vehicle you should be able to work it out. Just go over the vac solenoids with your multimeter to work out what's what, then install a change over relay switched by the 4wd...

    Why 70s

Depends what you need it for. The Troopy is a bad-ass offroad camper & travel machine, or a tool for hauling lots of people/stuff, HZ motor is very reliable but not exactly a powerhouse given the size of the truck, (turbo kits are popular). Troopy will hold it's value well too. The KZJ73 would...

    PTO winch on Automatic Transmission

Is yours the standard split-case transfer case? If so the PTO drive comes off the transfer case input shaft which is connected directly to the gearbox output. Hi/N/Lo & 2wd/4wd selection all happens downstream of that so there should be no mechanical way for them to interact. Only thing I can...
