    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

Give us some help, Rainman. Did you measure the stroke (on the bench) of your 1" bore master? And where did you get it? Do you have a part # for it? Thanks!

    81 FJ40 Alcan springs

My Alcans have been on since 2005 and I cannot be happier with them. My Cruiser weighed in at 5300 pounds, so I carry a lot of weight too. Over all these years it still sits level. Be sure to give Alcan all the details, including the weight you will have on the front and rear springs. I did...

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

As far as I know, the 3/4" bore is the smallest slave made for FJ-40s. I don't know what you have that would measure smaller. But.... please be reminded that you must consider the bore of the master. The pre 66 master (1"bore") and pre-66 slave (7/8" bore) would move your slave rod about 1...

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

You provided some good info. But, it is critical to know the bore size of the "fat" and the "skinny" masters. You can't determine your slave travel without knowing this. When you say you "can't get more than 1" out of the pedal"....... exactly what are you measuring? The critical measurement...

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

When you push your clutch pedal toward the floor.... (1) how far from the floor does it end up and (2) what stops the movement (master rod at end of travel or clutch pedal hits a stop)? Another way to ask the question..... When you disconnect the master from the clutch pedal, can you push the...

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

I see you did your test ahead of what I mentioned. Good for you. Your slave for a '76 should have a 13/16" bore. With your '76 master (3/4" bore) your slave travel should be slightly more than 1 1/4" with your '76 slave (13/16" bore). You have confirmed your real problem is that you are...

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

I would suggest disconnecting the bracket at your clutch pedal, and see if you can pull the rod in the direction of the clutch pedal. If you can, that suggests your rod is adjusted too long and that might get you another 5/8" of travel.

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

With 1" master travel, you would get about 3/4" slave travel. Is it possible your master rod is too long? If so, that would limit your master travel.

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

Just asking one more time..... Have you confirmed your master cylinder push rod is traveling 1 5/8" when you depress the clutch pedal? This must be verified!! Unless you have this travel there is no way you can move your slave cylinder rod enough.

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

Is your slave bleeder on the "top" or "bottom" side of your cylinder as mounted. Some of us are running the slave mounted upside down where the bleeder is on the bottom of the cylinder. I bleed my slave by gravity, but with the cylinder removed from its mounted position and just hanging by...

    FJ40 3speed to 4speed Clutch Problems... HELP!

If you are not getting the required 1" + throw from your slave cylinder........ you definitely have a hydraulic or linkage adjustment problem. I would suggest resolving this issue before pulling your drive train to check the clutch. I realize you have done all kinds of bleeding, but are you...
