Pretty awesome paint job :) It all looks so clean and smooth... like a new car. Very sharp.
What happened to the windshield wipers? I've been to CT... it rains there too :D

It's a litte hard to tell from the pictures, but if the Tub is in good shape, $2000 would be a bargain, at least around here. A lot of rusty (but running) rigs seem to be bringing in several thousand... and the csot of body work can be really expensive if you're not doing it yourself. Even if...
Hmm... I see the SOR ones now, they're a bit more pricey than what I had in mind. I stopped by the hardware store this morning and saw that they had some 1/4" closed cell foam that looked pretty sturdy... maybe I'll give it a try. And it's only $10.
thanks

I just removed my transmission hump from my 77 fj40, and discovered that the PO had sealed it on there with tar. It's a sticky mess.
I'm assuming that Toyota didn't make it that way. Was this something that had typical seam sealer? I'm guessing that since it's a removeable part, it would have...
Hmm. $700 buys a lot of sanding discs. I have a lot more free time than I have money.... maybe I'll do the bulk of it with a sander and then touch up the tight spots with a cheap media blaster. I'll be replacing the quarter panels and rear sill, which takes care of the bulk of my rust.

LOL
OK, fair enough... I was surpised at how high it was. Still, I really was intending that to be in the context of the comparison to my earlier mileage.

BTW- Shelfboy, in case there was confusion... this is with TBI on my 2F engine, not a SBC.
Perhaps I should repeat myself; I'm not claiming that my rig is better than anyone elses.... just saying that it's a lot better than it was.

Hmm. How much should I expect to pay to have my Cruiser soda blasted? I can't imagine that it would be as cheap as buying some paint stripper, but it would be nice to have the surface rust removed...

The paint on my Cruiser is a mess. There are at least three coats of paint.. the original, someone painted over that in the original color, and then I rattle canned over sections of that.
So, my plan is to repaint the whole tub, but I don't really have the facilities to remove the tub...
Kevin,
I'm sure you're right... I could certainly believe that there are some awesome running 40s out there that get mileage like this. My point wasn't really to say "Hey, look how much better my TBI cruiser is than your carbed cruiser", it was more to say... "Hey, look how much better my...
Yeah, the power is a LOT better all around. Take that with a grain of salt, though... before I did the TBI conversion, my carb was jetted and tuned for about 400 feet above sea level, and I live at 5000 ft. Never could get it running smoothly here in CO. However, John at Coyote Cruiser here in...
I just had to post this... I took my first long drive to calculate gas mileage with my new TBI setup, and got 17 mpg! :D This was mostly on a country road, going about 55 mph, about a quarter of the trip was in traffic in town.
Bullsh*t, you're saying... and I would be too. A year before I...
For what it's worth...
I did the TBI conversion on my 2F, mostly using the tech links on the forum here, there are a couple of good ones. It was cheap... went to the junk yard and pulled most of the parts (but did buy a few new sensors). I didn't keep track of the cost of all the parts from the...
