Great thread, I'm rolling in my old Man's 80 as well. Similar story as he bought it new and drove it until he couldn't anymore, lots of great memories. Mom was going to have it towed away and I sent a truck for it. I've got about 4 years with...
As other said, they're aftermarket wheels. If they are 8" wide they would be interesting and I would hold on to them. IMO, 10" wide wheels are too wide. It looks like they might have 1/4" spacers behind them, which is not uncommon for wheels...
Welcome, those rims look like the old American Racing rims (aftermarket), and they probably used to be white. I had a 76 at one time that someone had put those on, seems like they must have been the rage back then in order to mount a wider tire...
Good point, I'm running 4" skyjackers and made the adjustment to the drag link. I guess the best option would be to adjust both to maximize thread engagement on both rods (relay & draglink)
Perfect color 40 IMHO! I set my 2F timing by advancing it slightly more that the FSM would indicate, my BB is at the bottom of the timing window when illuminated by the timing light. I'm desmogged with a re-curved FJ60 distributor
The drag link (if stock set up) is in the DS fender well and runs from the steering box pitman arm foward long the frame to the center arm at the front frame cross member. Adjusting the length of that arm allows you to center the steering wheel.
Got the gauges wired up! Now just need to finish the turbo install and get this thing boosting. Also finished up the exhaust. Still need to heat wrap it once it’s tested for leaks.
Welded up my down pipe for the turbo. Don’t judge the welds it’s literally my second time welding and first time welding thin exhaust. Only blew through one time and was able to recover. I’m a fan of DIY and this was worth the effort big learning...
My vote is 3” arms if you think you might go taller. DC will be dictated by the pinion angle, if the arms are going line up the pinion with the TC output flange (+ or - 1 degree) then you will be a good DC candidate if you’ve got vibes or “the...
Fancified my wife’s seat. Cabela’s low back bucket seat cover. Was a pain to get buckled and cinched down tight, but it’s way better than the flaking crusty exposed foam seat. And it’s only $20ish.
And now it’s in full on sports cruiser mode...
Lock Right No-Slip in the rear of mine for years. It’s a full locker but without the clicks and bangs of the lower cost alternatives. It’s there when you need it, that said I’d probably look for something else if driving on snow and ice.
I think I am in the correct location. Intro thread. Soon to be proud owner of a 97 FZJ80. I had tinkered with this "Landcrusher" for several years off and on with the present owner. The present owner has too many vehicles and is planning to...
