That's good advice, and I decided against it after taking a close look at the running gear - a bit much behind my 40 and I already have an M-416.
Thanks!
If you've got a fresh set of points around, you might give them a try before condemning the coil, just in case. When I toasted one it went to 0 Ohms, i.e. a short. But that's certainly not the only way they could fail. After ignition on all night, you may need points even if the old ones...
Mytoy72, all I can point you toward is what's working for my rig, which is stock 8/76 with a cooler, no clutch. I have the same pulley as SouthBoston shows, which is different from yours. Here's a pic of the (old, nasty) pump that shows which flange it is used with.
Well, the beautiful thing about using the phone as a speedometer (side from the fact that my speedo cable is broken so it's all I have!) is that the app I use shuts down all notifications. Ignorance is really blissful until I get to my destination.
I can tell by looking at your pics that our pulleys are different, mine seems to have more "nose" sticking out in front, but of course that's because the flange on mine sticks father forward, too. I say, see where the fan sits and run with it. By the way, of course I have noticed absolutely no...
MyToy72, the pulley you have looks like the one I had for my clutch setup. As I remember it, the hole spacing for the clutch and non-clutch bolt pattern is different, and the pulleys have a different backspacing so the belts line up even though the pumps are different lengths.
My solution ultimately was the Aisin pump # WPT020 from rockauto with my original plastic fan and pulley. The pump is high quality, with the original TEQ ground off of the casting. Be advised that it says it comes with a gasket, and shows the internal pump gasket. In fact it comes with an...
Here are some views from the FSM -
The old-style starter, showing the connection to the coil when it's engaged. I don't have a schematic for the new GR starter, but it doesn't have that extra terminal.
Then the different coil setups. Notice that the Non-USA coil has no external resistor -...
As Mr. Head said above, resistor or no resistor is determined by the coil - the system needs a certain resistance to avoid being overheated. The resistor bypass circuit from the starter, on the other hand, is what's in place for cold starts. It gets eliminated with a gear reduction starter...
