Went great once I figured it out. I kept the original leather on and had to really work the new cover to get it tight. But I have seen a lot of guys in the Facebook group say they removed the old leather and it worked well also. So i think it's just preference.
I bought a core steering wheel to wrap with a Loncky kit in my spare time. This is the one removed from my 80. Pull the leather, and wrap it on your own time without having to do it all at once. No airbag or switches. Just the wheel and rear cover.

Really? I'd think people want an arm and a leg for the OEM "better for resale" line of thinking. I'd rather have new but ill look into that though. Still excited to see what you come up with.
I just inhaled this thread. I'll second the thought and like the idea of buying the pulley and blower separate so that someone can take "steps" into buying a system without having to drop a huge sum all at once. Wishing the intercooler wasn't mandatory, but appreciative of the efforts of this...
I am definitely not worried about the bottom end, the reliability of the motor, the head gasket job itself, etc. I'm simply comparing the effort of the job to the what could be just a little extra effort (haha dumb?) to do a swap. The point of the swap to me is exactly what you are saying...
You mean over the stock trans? I would love to keep the Toyota trans but the problem is it doesn't shift well behind the 5.3 and apparently standalone control of it is expensive and difficult to do.
