2021 Sequoia Limited blue smoke on start up

My 2012 5.7 PCV valve was plugged at 103K miles - I've heard this happening to other, lower mileage 5.7s as well. The PCV valve is easy and cheap to inspect / replace . I'd suggest checking out the PCV valve before doing much else. If oil level drops considerably between oil changes, trade it...

Serpentine belt swap - how far are you all going?

PVC valve for sure. My was plugged at 103K. Cheap and easy to replace. Clean T-body as well. Carry a spare ignition coil. Not much else on the 5.7 it is much more boring than the 1FZ! :)

Serpentine belt swap - how far are you all going?

YMMV - If the pulley bearings are quiet and tight - good to go. If the tensioner moves easy and doesn't have in/out slop - good to go. However, if your rig has 200K+ - YES, replace away. I replaced my 5.7 belt at 103K - no issues with bearings / tensioner found. Good luck!

    2nd or 3rd gen Tundra…?

All good points. If I were to purchase any gas turbo vehicle, it would be 100% Toyota. With my experience as an auto tech (all makes), engineering and testing various power train layouts over the years, I'd shy away from any gasoline turbo engine for long term durability / long term ownership...

Anyone have a Flex Fuel 5.7?

Also - I was an ASE auto tech for a decade, Polaris engineering for another decade. FFV vehicles / components never really created issues, it was the owners :) I also have a 2017 Dodge Garand Caravan. It is a FFV - I regularly switch between 87, 88, and e-85 without issues.

Anyone have a Flex Fuel 5.7?

I have a 2012 5.7 Sequoia with flex fuel, in MN, so we also get the "special" winter blend fuel with extra ethanol. No issues. I run standard 87, and the 15% 88 throughout the year. I have never used e-85 in the Sequoia. It's a Toyota - rest assured they tested rigorously with FFV and it is...

😎 2g tree video, lots of interesting tech

Fun video. I love Land Cruiser, miss my 80 series. The 2g Sequoia truly is the "USA" sized Land Cruiser. The 2024 Land Cruiser looks amazing, just too small for family work, and wont have the high towing capacity. Sequoia is an amazing unit, all generations. Very reliable and capable in...

Considering a Sequoia for a family rig

I love the Gen1 as well, it checks all the right boxes and look great. If I could have found a good one, i'd be an owner. Being from the rust belt, they are, sadly, rusting into history like all the good trucks are up here.

    Slow Mo(tion), No Mo(ney) Build

I really miss this truck. 1997 80 series, triple locked with the gold package. What could be better? The new owner has contacted me a few times - he's really loving it and getting it off-road way more than I was. Its replacement is here...

Considering a Sequoia for a family rig

2nd gen, all the way. Good, clean, 1st gens are getting hard to find - YMMV. I have a family of 6 and my 2012 is a beast. I have the limited which has the bench 2nd row, but removed the center seat as a pass through for school drop-off. Very solid trucks, tows well, excellent in the snow...
